Renia Sophia Park
The Reina Sofia Park in the center of Guardamar is beautifully
designed with numerous lakes, ponds, waterfalls and trails and pleasant to stroll through at any time of the year.
The large central lake is home to a wide variety of ducks and swans and you will also see small turtles basking on
the rocks at the edge of the water.
The park is also home to peacocks, red squirrels and other
wildfowl and has plenty of shady areas to sit or picnic. There is a children's play area with carousels and an open
air concert stage for festivals. The park is popular with people of all ages and well worth a visit.
Las Dunas de
Guardamar
Located at the mouth of the river and close to
the park, the Dunes of Guardamar offer a unique natural environment. The 840 acres of "La Pinada" nature reserve is
home to some of the most exotic birds and plant species in Spain. Pine, palm, eucalyptus and cypress trees line the
dunes to help prevent erosion and sand storms from shifting the dunes inland. Herons, flamingos and other rare
birds are regularly spotted while taking a stroll along this nature reserve. Camel rides through the dunes are one
of the main attractions of this beautiful area.
