Corvera International Airport
Government officials have stated that the building and fitting
out of the new Murcia airport will be completed by the end of this year. With the terminal building virtually
complete, work is now being carried out on external landscaping and construction.
Parking for 1800 vehicles is under construction and also the areas which will hold the complementary services
. The biggest concern, however, is not the physical completion of the airport, but the bureaucratic processes
which could hold up the arrivals of the first passengers, predicted to be around March 2012. There is still
no indication as to which airline operators will be using the Corvera airport.
Airport Pick ups
Police are cracking down on unlicensed taxi drivers at both
Alicante and Murcia airports by issuing on the spot fines and noting vehicle particulars to monitor frequency of
airport visits. It has been suggested that legal taxi drivers may be behind the recent spate
of tyre slashing incidents. Warnings have been issued to advise
anyone picking up relatives or friends from either airport to remain with their
vehicle if possible.
New Mayor for Torrevieja

Airport Bus
Service
The recently launched direct bus between Alicante airport and
Torrevieja is likely to expire on the 23 Sept 2011. The current service operates every two hours
from Torrevieja Bus Station starting at 7am and ending at 9pm and from Alicante starting at 8am with the last
bus departing at 10pm. The service was for a temporary four month period to assess the the long
term viability but it appears it may end due to lack of use even though at 7 euros it is a fraction of the
price of a taxi. This is mainly due to the fact that few people know of its existance as there has
been no advertising or promotion and it has been cited as being purely an election booster for Torrevieja
council in the run up to the recent elections.
New Security in Torrevieja
The Local Police in Torrevieja are trying to make the streets a
safer place for everyone. There is already a network of CCTV cameras in the city recorded by a central
monitoring unit. The network is developing further with the addition of a number of mobile cameras which will
include listening equipment. This will allow police to monitor sound levels from bars and clubs and nuisance
noise from motorbikes as well as recording any anti social behavour. The next atage will be to install
emergency help points where a person can summon assistance at the touch of a button whilst protected by the camera
network and new listening devices. The whole development has cost around 2 million euros.
